Cricket Ireland have appointed former Ireland international and one time record cap holder Andrew White as a National Selector with a focus on the NCU region.
White will take over from Kyle McCallan who recently ended his term as National Selector after the World T20 tournament in India.

After ending his 15 year career as an international cricketer following a badly broken finger in early 2015, White continued to captain the Northern Knights side until the end of last season when he retired from all representative cricket.

Over the winter White has become more and more involved with coaching and development in the game within the NCU, as well as being involved with coaching on the Ireland Emerging Players Programme.

Richard Holdsworth, Cricket Ireland Performance Director welcomed White onto the selection committee, highlighting the importance of having someone so involved with cricket in the NCU in the role.

“We are very pleased to appoint Andrew to the national men’s selection committee, where his wealth of knowledge on and off the field will bring great value to the player discussions. Since Andrew’s retirement from international cricket he has continued to represent and captain the Northern Knights until this season, and remains a key figure in the Instonians team, both of which has allowed him to play with and against and watch, the best players in the province, giving him first-hand knowledge of their ability and character. It is a key period in the development of the team across all three formats and we look forward to Andrew’s involvement on the committee.”

The role will begin immediately with White joining Alan Lewis (Chair), John Bracewell (National Coach), Greg Molins (LCU) and Ian McGregor (NWCU) on the panel.

Speaking about his appointment White said “I see this as a huge honour and an important part of an exciting future for Irish cricket.”

Alan Lewis, Chairman of Selectors thanked Kyle McCallan for his outstanding contribution over the last six years: “It has been great working with Kyle over the last number of years. Having been chairman of selectors for almost three years now I valued all Kyle gave to the cause of Irish cricket. We all endeavour to pick what we think is the best team and squad to play for Ireland, Kyle never wavered in that cause. We all wish him well.”
