All-round Delany leads Typhoons to Toyota Super 3 victory over Dragons

International captain Laura Delany put in a fantastic all-round performance to guide her Typhoons past Mary Waldron’s Dragons, despite her knock of 93.
Laura Delany’s brilliant all-round performance helped her Typhoons side to a relatively comfortable seven-wicket win against the Dragons in their Toyota Super 3 encounter at Oak Hill.

Chasing 191 for victory, Irish leg-spinner Ciara Metcalfe dismissed Ellen Ridgeway (25), Rebecca Rolfe (15), and Jenny Gray (3) in quick succession as the Typhoons went from 58 for 0 to 64 for 3.

However Irish skipper Delany and Australian overseas player Heidi Cheadle both scored half centuries as they shared an unbroken fourth wicket stand of 130 in 129 balls to seal the seven-wicket win.

Cheadle was particularly savage on anything loose, hitting 12 boundaries in her 63 not out from 62 balls, while Delany hit four boundaries in her unbeaten 52 from 59 deliveries.

Earlier Mary Waldron’s superb 93 held together the Dragons innings of 190.

The Irish keeper-batswomen hit 9 boundaries in her 102 ball innings, dominating a fourth wicket partnership of 71 with Rachel Delany (25).

Laura Delany, in a rare bowl following injury, took 4 for 35, while opening bowler Louise Little also did well in claiming 3 for 29.
