Scotland Level Celtic Cup Series

Scotland Under 15’s levelled the Celtic Cup series with a convincing 105-run win against their Irish counterparts in Ayr on Wednesday.

Skipper Angus Guy top scored for Scotland with 86 from 136 balls (8 fours), sharing partnerships of 68 and 99 for the 3rd and 4th wickets with Tom Bradburn (40) and Asaf Khan (39).

That enabled Scotland to post 221 for 7 in their 50 overs, with Luke Allison’s 4 for 42 and James Hunter’s 2 for 47 the best of the Irish attack.

Bradburn - son of Scotland Head Coach, Grant - then struck two decisive blows as he removed Irish openers Oliver Metcalfe (5) and Alex Stiles (14).

The Irish innings stuttered throughout, never able to break the shackles, with brothers Charlie and Freddie Peet turning the screw.

Left-arm spinner Charlie took 3 for 15 in his ten-over spell - which contained five maidens - while Freddie took 2 for 11.

There was brief resistance late on from top scorer Archie Johnston who top scored with 23, and Mitchell Thompson (18), but it was only delaying the inevitable, as Ireland were eventually dismissed for 116.

The teams meet again today (THURS) in the penultimate clash in the series, which concludes on Friday with a T20 encounter, also at Ayr.
