Umpiring courses across the country

With there being so much cricket played across the country and 2013 set to be one of the busiest cricketing seasons in history there has never been a better time to get involved with one of the most crucial aspects of our sport, Umpiring.

There are a series of courses being run across the three major unions in the coming months and the details are as follows

Leinster Cricket Union

Over the winter LCUSA will organise another Level 1 Umpire Course as well as a Level 1 Scorer Course.

Is retirement as a player getting closer, feeling the ol’ bones & muscles more than you used to, or would you like to get involved but not necessarily as a player? Why not take up umpiring - you’ll be in the best spot to watch all the action. If you have some experience umpiring and would like to be the next Aleem Dar, or if you want to help your club by umpiring youth/adult matches, this is the perfect start. Whichever path you want to go, the Level 1 course is an intensive few days and will give you a better foundation on the Laws of Cricket and the basics of umpiring.

The Umpire course will be held in the weekend starting Friday 18 January, 7 pm. Once again we are very fortunate to have Terenure CC available for this course.

Level 1A Course

The association will be running a Level 1A Umpiring Course, taking place on the 2nd & 3rd of March, in Terenure CC. Attendees must be ECB ACO members,  and have already attained Level 1, or equivalent.

If you want to participate in either or both courses,, or if you have questions, please send an email to the LCUSA training officer, Inge Bevers, at lcusaeducation@yahoo.ie

Northern Cricket Union

NIACUS will be running a Level 1 umpiring course commencing on Tuesday evening 29 January and running each following Tuesday for about eight weeks. The course will be held at the St John Ambulance (NI) headquarters, Erne, 35 Knockbracken Healthcare Park, Saintfield Road, Belfast commencing at 19:00 each night. The cost of the course, including all training materials, a copy of Tom Smith’s Cricket Umpiring and Scoring and one year membership of the ECB ACO is £40 per person.

Anyone interested in attending should contact Keith Smith by email on keithsmith7mr@gmail.com

North West Cricket Union

There are 2 courses organised to run concurrently. They both commence next week Monday 14th January and Thursday 17th January,  Level 1a is on the Mondays, and Level 1 on Thursdays each week (2 hours each night) until some time in April. The venue is at Bready Cricket Club, where there is an excellent indoor sports hall available.

David Caldwell is running the course and his contact numbers and Email are; Home; 02881658956 Mobile; 07708253884 Email; dwcadwell@talktalk.net
