Niall Franklin of Hanley Energy caught up with Ger Siggins at the recent Interprovincial match to review ‘First Class Cricket in Ireland 1895-2017’
To coincide with the granting of First Class status to Cricket Ireland’s Hanley Energy Interprovincial Championship for 2017, cricket writer Ger Siggins produced an outstanding historical record of ‘First Class Cricket in Ireland 1895-2017’.

“First class cricket’s roots may be thin in Ireland, but they are deep and go back to the 19th century. I’ve always had a great passion for our sport’s history here and am delighted that Cricket Ireland and Hanley Energy recognised how worthwhile it was to mark the new era of domestic first-class cricket with this booklet setting out the records to date,” Siggins said.

On Friday July 21st at Merrion Cricket Club in Dublin, Siggins caught up with Niall Franklin, Hanley Energy’s Marketing Manager, during the Interprovincial T20 match between the Leinster Lightning and the North West Warriors.

“Congratulations to Ger Siggins on the release of the First-Class Cricket in Ireland book,” said Franklin. ‘It’s certainly a must-have collectors gem for all Irish Cricket fans. We are delighted to sponsor this publication and First Class cricket in Ireland.”

“While Irish cricket is making great strides forward on and off the field, I think it’s important that we recognise how we got here. And in cricket that means remembering those great players, teams and performances that are the foundations of all our success,” added Siggins.

With three centuries scored and five-wicket hauls taken in this year’s competition already, the history of First Class cricket in Ireland will need consistent updating. This is something not lost on Siggins, “hopefully it can be an annual venture and ‘Hanley’ will be seen in the same light as ‘Wisden’ is in other countries!”

The book is available from the Provincial Unions so please pick up your copy at your next Interprovincial match.
