The Toyota Super 3s switch format this weekend for the first ‘Super Sunday’ of the season. The Dragons, Scorchers and Typhoons will all descend on Oak Hill for a thrilling day of T20 action.
The Scorchers sit atop the 50 over table with three wins from three, however, a change to T20 brings a different style of cricket which may bring other players to the fore.

Ireland captain, Laura Delany, is one who is relishing the prospect of T20 matches. “I’m really looking forward to change in style on Sunday. We (Typhoons) will be looking to play a more attacking style of cricket. Bowling wise, T20 is about shorter spells and attacking the stumps more.”

Andrew Poynter, Scorchers coach, is also looking forward to seeing his charges play a different style of cricket. “The switch in mindset is going to be exciting to see how they play and approach the games differently, but one that I think our girls can handle as they have played more T20 cricket than 50 over cricket throughout their careers.”

Delany struggled to pick a favourite, beyond the Typhoons of course, going into the this Sunday’s action at Oak Hill. ” All three sides could be evenly balanced, the Dragons have their batting attack, the Scorchers their bowling attack and we’ve got Clare, Jenny and Heidi at the top of the order with lots of T20 experience.

The Scorchers are looking to build on their 50 over successes this season and take that into the 20 over matches too. “It works nicely for us to as we don’t have any more 50 over games left so we can concentrate on T20 plans and skills,” said Poynter.

Delany is hopeful that the Scorchers may yet have to play 50 over cricket this season, so the Typhoons can reel them in at the top of the table. This would need the early season postponements to be re-fixed. “I think we’d be extremely disappointed if every effort wasn’t made to try and accommodate those fixtures if possible. We’re all so competitive and we want to see who comes out on top at the end of the league season.”

That competitive edge, as well as T20 skills will be on show to everyone on Sunday at Oak Hill. Included in the action will be several members of the underage international squads announced this week. Andrew Poynter added about some of his Scorchers who were selected, “I am very proud of all of the girls that got selected and I’m looking forward to seeing how they get on in their own age groups. Hopefully they can take their Super 3s experiences to those squads and perform for the national side”.
