The Scorchers moved to two wins from two on the back of 68 not out from Kim Garth. Cecilia Joyce’s 83 not enough for the Dragons on this occasion.
A century stand between Kim Garth and Lucy O’Reilly led the Scorchers to a comfortable seven-wicket win against the Dragons in their 50-over Toyota Super 3 encounter at College Park in Dublin.
Chasing a modest 164, the pair came together after Katie Gurrey (15) and Cath Murphy (10) had fallen early. They then proceeded to add 106 in 22.2 overs to guide Andrew Poynter’s side to the brink of victory.
Garth top scored with an unbeaten 68 from 99 balls (5 fours), while O’Reilly hit just the one boundary in her 32 from 68 balls.
Earlier Cecelia Joyce had dominated the Dragons innings top scoring with 83 from 125 balls (5 fours), adding 95 for the 3rd wicket with Shauna Kavanagh (23).
Having reached 154 for 3 in the 39th over, Dragons looked set for a total well in excess of 200, but collapsed alarmingly losing their last seven wickets for just 9 runs in a dramatic passage of play.
Joyce lost the sibling bragging rights being dismissed by twin sister Isobel who took 2 for 21, while there were three wickets apiece for Orla Prendergast (3-14) and Lucy O’Reilly (3-28).
Scorchers top the table after winning both their opening matches of the series.
