Ireland U19s Beaten Despite Lewis Heroics

The Ireland Under 19s came close to chasing down the target against Warwickshire in their opening match at Malvern. They go again today against Wales.
Ireland’s U19 girls slipped to an agonising 9-run loss to Warwickshire in their opening match of the prestigious Malvern Festival.

Chasing 182 for victory, the Irish came up short despite the best efforts of skipper Gaby Lewis who made an unbeaten 72 as the Girls in Green were dismissed for 172.

Lewis struck 11 boundaries in her brilliant innings, but only Cara Murray (16) and Sadbh Breslin (12) reached double figures alongside her.

Lewis had also been the star performer with the ball as she claimed 3 for 28 as Warwickshire posted 181 for 6, thanks primarily to a brilliant 105 from MIna Zahoor (8 fours).

Robyn Lewis (1-23), Cara Murray (1-29) and Orla Martin (1-30) were the other successful wicket takers for the Irish.

Ireland are back in action on Thursday when they take on Wales at the same venue.
