The Ireland Wolves fell to a 9 wicket defeat against Gloucestershire 2nds at Rockhampton CC, despite an outstanding batting performance of Simi Singh over the three days.

The Ireland Wolves fell to a 9 wicket defeat against Gloucestershire 2nds at Rockhampton CC, despite an outstanding batting performance of Simi Singh over the three days.

Gloucestershire declared on 370/9 with a 40 run lead late on Day 2 and took full advantage of a tricky mini-session before the close. The Wolves were 92 for 5 heading into the final day after Matt Taylor and Chris Liddle took two wickets each.
Simi Singh and Lorcan Tucker (25) brought up their 50 partnership during the morning session of Day 3 but George Drissell broke the partnership trapping Tucker LBW. That brought Shane Getkate to the crease and together with Singh; they put on another 50 partnership as the Wolves increased the run rate on Thursday morning.

However while Singh was untroubled at one end, the wickets were falling at the other. Getkate (32) and Mulder (6) fell before lunch to leave the Wolves eight down, and the lead just 202.

After lunch, Nathan Smith (1) and Craig Young (2) also went quickly and Singh was left unbeaten once again with the Wolves lead just 212.

Simi Singh scored an unbeaten 107 in the first innings and an unbeaten 87 (11 fours, 1 six) in the second, an outstanding contribution from the Leinster Lightning batsman.

Chasing 213 for victory, openers Miles Hammond and Alex Barrow took Gloucester to 87 before Singh came on and bowled Hammond (46) in his first over. Alex Barrow went on to finish 86 not out while, number 3, George Hankins brought up his 50 with a straight 6 before taking Gloucester to victory on 54 not out.

The Ireland Wolves are back in action at YMCA Cricket Club, Dublin next week when they take on Scotland A in the second of three 3-Day matches this month.
