The Ireland Wolves lost by 3 wickets to fall one nil down in their 5 match series with Bangladesh A in Cox’s Bazar today.
Winning the toss and batting first, the Wolves lost wickets at regular intervals throughout the innings to be bowled out for 195 with 11 balls remaining of their allocation.

Four players, Simi Singh 33, James Shannon 27, John Anderson 27 and Stuart Poynter 25, all got starts but no one kicked on for the high score the innings could be built around.

Andrew Balbirnie (15) returned to captain the side today and was disappointed with the batting display. “It was disappointing to be below par on a slightly trickier wicket than the other day.

“As a batting unit it’s disappointing that we all got starts without getting a meaningful score.”

Sanzamul Islam was the chief threat to the Wolves taking 4 for 33 while Abul Hasan took 3-25 off 8 overs.

The Wolves fought hard in trying to defend their total of 195. Jacob Mulder took three wickets while Simi Singh bowled economically taking 1 for 22 off his 10 overs. George Dockrell with 2 for 41 and Nathan Smith with 1-32 were the other Irish wicket takers.

Nazmul Hossain (44) and Tanvir Haider with his unbeaten 61 hit the crucial innings to guide Bangladesh A home with 21 balls to spare.

“We fought hard with the ball and in the field,” said Balbirnie. “Jacob Mulder bowled very well bowling his 10 overs straight and he was well supported by George Dockrell but unfortunately we couldn’t create the couple of chances we needed.”

So the Wolves fall 1 nil down in the 5 match series with 3 matches remaining after Tuesday’s washout. The next fixture between the sides takes place on Saturday October 21st at 9am local time. (4am Irish time) and Balbirnie is looking forward to it already.
