The Ireland Wolves squad play three 3-Day matches in July. The first of which sees them face Gloucestershire 2nds at Rockhampton CC, near Bristol, starting on Tuesday July 4th.
The Ireland Wolves begin a series of 3-Day matches with a fixture against Gloucestershire 2nds at Rockhampton CC, near Bristol, starting on Tuesday July 4th.
Strong squads have been named for all three matches, with Ireland Head Coach John Bracewell explaining the rationale behind the selection. “The selectors have chosen from all available Irish-based players including B-category and incremental contracted players, as well as the senior Academy.

“We feel there’s a good balance between medium term development and the short-term need to prepare players for the Intercontinental Cup match against the Netherlands in August,” added Bracewell.

Wolves head coach Peter Johnston has welcomed the 9-days of competitive action for his charges. “These fixtures provide competitive games in the longer format and give a strong squad both opportunity and good preparation.

“Performance in the Interprovincial Championship combined with ongoing training camps for our home based players have helped greatly in the context of selection, which was very competitive,” he added.

One man who has shone in Interprovincial white ball cricket is stand-in captain Jack Tector. Now he gets his opportunity to not only play for the Wolves but to lead them too after Andy Balbirnie was ruled out with a recurrence of his glute injury.

The selection was bolstered further by the decision to replace Balbirnie with Leinster Lightning captain John Anderson. Meanwhile 19 year old pace bowling all-rounder David Delany has also been ruled out of the match starting tomorrow.

He suffered a hand injury which required stitches at the weekend and is replaced in the squad by Shane Getkate. The Instonians all-rounder captains the Wolves in white ball cricket, emphasising once again the competition for places in this squad.

Following the Gloucestershire match, the Wolves have a home match in YMCA CC, Dublin next week. That match against Scotland A from July 11th-13th, provides a free opportunity for Irish fans to see the blend of experience and youth at first hand. The Wolves then finish July back in England when they take on a very strong MCC YC at Southgate CC in London.
