Irish cricketing legend Miriam Grealey has been made an Honorary Life Member of the MCC.

Grealey, a former player, captain, coach of Ireland, as well as being a current national selector, is one of 37 recipients of the prestigious accolade from the MCC ahead of this weekend’s sell-out World Cup final at Lord’s.
“Firstly I would like to extend my thanks to the MCC committee for inviting me to become an Honorary Life Member,” said Grealey.

“To be invited to join the most prestigious cricket club in the world is a huge honour and a great privilege.

“I am very proud of the fact that I am the first Irish person and Irish woman to receive this recognition.

“To be included in the company of such great cricketers is quite humbling. I look forward to visiting Lords as a member of the MCC”

Cricket Ireland President Brian Walsh paid tribute to Grealey’s endeavours in Irish cricket.

“This reward is fully justified as Miriam has given incredible service to Irish cricket throughout her career in a variety of roles,” said Walsh.

“She is highly regarded not just in Ireland but throughout the cricketing world for her selfless advancement of women’s cricket.

“This recognition is fully deserved and is another piece of good news in what has been a momentous last month for Irish cricket.

Grealey won 80 caps for Ireland between 1987 and 2005, captaining the side 34 times. She is one of only five Irish players to make a century, scoring 101 against Pakistan in an ODI in Dublin in 2000.
