The Scorchers have won the 2017 Toyota Super 3 Series finishing above the Typhoons and the Dragons in a series which saw 56 players gain high level experience
The Scorchers have won the 2017 Toyota Super 3 Series finishing above both the Typhoons and the Dragons in the 18-match tournament played across two different formats.

The 2017 edition was the most successful to date with a total of 56 players gaining experience at the enhanced level which is seen as the natural stepping stone to international cricket.

Ian Corbett, Marketing Manager Toyota Ireland presented the trophy to Scorchers captain Kim Garth along with team-mate and fellow Irish international Isobel Joyce.

“We are delighted to see another successful season of the Toyota Super 3s following a summer of high calibre cricket,” said Corbett.

“At Toyota, we are very proud to be involved with women’s cricket and to see the game grow from strength to strength.”

Scorchers captain Kim Garth was quick to praise the collective efforts of her squad who enjoyed such a successful campaign.

“The success of the Scorchers this year was primarily down to the depth of the squad,” said Garth. “We had a good balance of senior international players as well as players coming through the underage squads.

“It was fantastic to see players like Orla Prendergast and Aoife Beggs really stepping up and performing consistently throughout the season for the Scorchers.

“We won seven out of the eight games that we played in and there were a wide range of players contributing to these wins which was fantastic not only for us but also for the development of the women’s game in Ireland,” added Garth,

Garth’s sentiments were echoed by former Irish captain Isobel Joyce who was delighted by the contributions from the younger players in the tournament.

“The Toyota Super 3s tournament has improved year on year and what has made the difference for The Scorchers this year is the younger players stepping up and putting in big performances.

“Orla Prendergast and Rebecca Stokell have both had a big impact to name just two but the team as a whole have fired well together and that was reflected in the results.

I’ve really enjoyed taking a back seat, watching as Kim and Lucy O’Reilly lead the team and the extra responsibility for Lucy has really shown in her performances too.”
Scorchers topped the table on 18 points ahead of the Typhoons on 11 points and the Dragons on 7.

Clare Shillington scored the competition’s only century and was one of five players who scored over 250 runs in the event. Irish captain Laura Delany (319) topped the list, ahead of Shillington (317), Garth (310), Mary Waldron (257) and Katie Gurrey (254).

There were 19 half centuries scored during the tournament by 12 different players, with Kim Garth and Laura Delany scoring three apiece.

Delany was also joint leading wicket taker with Garth, both taking 10 apiece, followed by Lucy O’Reilly, Isobel Joyce and Louise Little on 8, and Orla Prendergast on 7.

Aoife Brennan (4-9) had the best-bowling figures for the series, while Laura Delany and Isobel Joyce also took four wickets in an innings.
