The first Toyota T20 Super Sunday of 2017 took place in Oak Hill on July 17th. All three Super 3s played each other over the course of the day with the Scorchers coming out on top winning both their matches.
Clare Shillington’s brilliant century was the highlight of Sunday’s Toyota Super 3 T20 matches at Oak Hill.

The Typhoons’ player-coach led by example as she hit 18 fours and 5 sixes in a wonderful exhibition of controlled aggression, top scoring with 116 from just 54 balls.

Shillington’s powerful knock saw the Typhoons rack up an imposing 194 for 5, sharing a third wicket stand of 98 with fellow Irish international Laura Delany, who hit four boundaries in her 34 from 29 balls.

Faced with such a daunting total the Dragons were never in contention despite the best efforts of Shauna Kavanagh who hit three fours and cleared the ropes twice in an entertaining 37 from 26 balls.

Mary Waldron continued her recent strong form with a fine 32 from 29 balls (4 fours), but the Dragons finished 62 runs adrift on 132 for 4.

Despite Shillington grabbing the headlines it was the Scorchers who were the big winners of the day, winning both matches to extend their lead at the top of the Super 3 table.

A solid batting effort with the top six reaching double figures saw them score 174 for 5 against the Dragons.

Rebecca Stokell top scored with 31, while Lucy O’Reilly, Kim Garth, Orla Prendergast and Isobel Joyce all passed 20.

Rachel Delaney (2-31) was the most successful of the bowlers.

The Dragons reply got bogged down, and despite the best efforts of Mary Waldron, who top scored with 57 from 46 balls (8 fours), and Cecelia Joyce who hit 6 fours in a breezy 35 not out from 22 deliveries, they finished 39 short.

Anna Kerrison (2-22) was the pick of the Scorchers attack.

The final match was the closest of the day with the Scorchers edging out the Typhoons by 19 runs despite Shillington threatening another match-winning performance.

Kim Garth’s hard-hit 63 helped the Scorchers post 148 for 4 – the Irish vice-captain hitting six fours and one maximum in her 51-ball innings.

The total didn’t look enough as Shillington continued where she left off, hitting 8 fours and a six in a belligerent 45 from just 25 balls.

However her dismissal by Orla Prendergast proved the turning point, as the Typhoons finished 19 runs short, despite a run-a-ball 30 from Laura Delany.

Prendergast’s spell of 2-13 in four overs was a winning one, with Aoife Beggs (1-9) also bowling tightly in her two overs.
