Max Christian Sorensen
Sorensen is a right-handed batsman who bowls right-arm fast-medium. He was born at Johannesburg, Transvaal Province but has lived in Dublin since moving to Ireland to play for the Hills in the Leinster League in 2007.
Sorensen was called up to the Ireland squad for the tour to Kenya in February 2012 and also for the 2012 World Twenty20 Qualifier. During the Kenyan leg of the tour, Sorensen made his first-class debut against Kenya in the Intercontinental Cup. In a match dominated by spin bowlers, Sorensen was twice dismissed for a duck. The match was scheduled to last four days, but was completed in two with Ireland winning by 10 runs. However, this inauspicious start didn’t affect Sorensen as he went on to make his Twenty20 International debut in the three match Twenty20 series which followed, taking the wickets of Rakep Patel and Alex Obanda to finish with figures of 2/17 in an Irish victory.
Max then went on to star in Ireland’s successful campaign at the World Twenty20 Qualifiers where he played in eight matches, including a starring role in the latter stages of the tournament. In the crucial qualification decider against Namibia he bowled a spell of 4-2-8-2 with 17 dot balls to earn the man of the match award. His figures of 2 for 26 in the final against Afghanistan and selection in the squad of 13 for the RSA Challenge against Australia in June 2012 showed that he looks like he is set for a long career in the green of Ireland.
