Following the 2017 Hanley Energy Interprovincial season, Leinster Lightning have announced some changes to their staff including John Anderson stepping down as captain.
John Anderson has stepped down as Leinster Lightning captain after two successive treble winning seasons since taking over from John Mooney at the start of the 2016 season.

Greg Molins is also stepping as Chairman of Selectors for the Lightning, while Adam Sullivan has left his role as strength and conditioning coach.
John Anderson described the huge honour it was captain hs province for the past two seasons, an experience he says he will will never forget.

“I’d like to thank everyone involved with the Lightning who has supported and assisted me throughout and without whom the team could never have achieved the success it has over the last few years,” said Anderson.

“Specifically, I’d like to thank the coaches I captained under, Albert van der Merwe and Ted Williamson as well as the team manager Mark Jones, who’s’ efforts have been immense.

“Thanks also to all the players for their dedication, commitment and drive to win games of cricket. I’m extremely proud of what the team has achieved and it’s been a privilege to lead such a talented group of players,” Anderson added.

Anderson believes now is the right time to pass the baton on to someone else however he has stated that he is still fully committed and available to play for the team.

The Lightning, for their part, said they would like to thank John for all his hard work and professionalism during the last two seasons and for the success that he has brought to the province.

Greg Molins meanwhile, has been a selector since the reintroduction of the Interprovincial matches in 2013 and has also represented the Lightning as an Irish Selector for the past two years. Following a Cricket Ireland re-structure, he no longer holds this position.

“Molins has been a visible presence around the grounds and has put in a huge amount of work contributing in no small way to our success” said the Lightning, “the players and coaching staff would like to thank Greg for all his hard work.”

The Lightning Strength and Conditioning coach Adam Sullivan has also left to complete his Doctorate in Sports Science with Liverpool FC and Liverpool University. The Lightning described Adam as a breath of fresh air since joining the squad four years ago.

“Coming from a GAA background and not having any cricket knowledge, he quickly learned what the game was about and added great energy, enthusiasm, professionalism and even laughter to all aspects of his work. Adam became a very popular figure in the dressing room and his warm ups are now the stuff of legend. We wish Adam all the best with his career in Liverpool,” the Lightning concluded.
