Bangladesh win second warm-up

Bangladesh duly completed their second warm up victory beating the NCU Select XI by 48 runs in a rain affected encounter at North Down Cricket Club.
A fine batting display saw Bangaldesh run up 164 for 5 in their 20 overs, with their top order all getting valuable crease time.

Tamim Iqbal struck five boundaries in his 24 before being brilliantly caught on the long off boundary by Andrew White off the impressive Johnny Thompson, who conceded just 11 runs in his opening three over spell.

Mohammed Ashraful anchored the innings with an unbeaten 52 from 49 balls (4 fours), sharing a second wicket stand of 65 in 50 deliveries with Mahmudullah, who smashed 43 from just 27 balls (6 fours, 1 six).

A late onslaught saw Bangladesh add 64 from the last 32 balls, with Ziaur Rahman striking two sixes in his 22 from 11 balls, and Junaid Siddique making 12 from the last three deliveries.

Gary Kidd (2-43), Johnny Thompson (1-11), Andrew White (1-20), and Stuart Thompson (1-35) were the wicket takers for the NCU side.

Just as in the earlier game Bangaldesh struck early on as Nazmul Hossain (1-11) removed Rory McCann with the third ball of the reply.

Elias Sunny (2-7) strangled the NCU innings and despite brief cameos from White (19*), James Shannon (16), and Lee Nelson (14), the NCU side were well beaten when the rain and bad light brought proceedings to a premature close.

The NCU had managed just five boundaries in their total of 61 for 5 in 13.2 overs, leaving Bangladesh 48 run winners under D/L.

Bangladesh now play Ireland in the RSA Twenty20 Tri-Series, with the games taking place at Stormont on Wednesday (5pm), Friday (5pm) and Saturday (4pm).
