Changes to Ireland Women schedule and amended start time to Ireland Men’s 1st T20I against Zimbabwe

DUBLIN – Cricket Ireland has today confirmed replacement matches and a training schedule revision for Ireland Women’s cricket team as a result of the cancellation of the Zimbabwe Women’s tour, and also announced a revised start time for the first T20 International between Ireland Men and Zimbabwe Men on 10 July 2019.
Ireland Women’s team was due to play a six-match series against a visiting Zimbabwean side starting today, however, last Friday Zimbabwe Cricket announced it was no longer in a position to send their squad. While all women’s fixtures have now been cancelled, Cricket Ireland has scheduled two T20 matches and new training sessions at Oak Hill Cricket Club over the next week.

The fixtures are:

• Friday 5 July: Ireland Women v Leinster Under-16s Boys (Oak Hill, 11am)
• Friday 5 July: Ireland Women v Leinster Under-16s Boys (Oak Hill, 3pm)

Richard Holdsworth, Performance Director at Cricket Ireland, said:

“This is a very unfortunate situation and we are highly conscious that the women’s squad were using the Zimbabwe series as an important lead-in to the Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier in August. With pretty much no notice we approached a number of teams to see whether they could support us with some replacement fixtures for the squad, but it proved too difficult for most sides we approached to break into their schedules at this stage of the season and be in a position to assemble a team at such short notice.”

“Cricket Leinster has been empathetic of circumstances and agreed to field an Under-16s boys squad to play two T20s this Friday at Oak Hill. We appreciate their support at this challenging time. In addition to these matches, interim Head Coach Ed Joyce will hold three days of training this week for the squad as well.”

Change to Ireland Men v Zimbabwe Men’s 1st T20 International

Originally starting at 11am as part of a doubleheader with the women’s teams, the fixture scheduled on Wednesday 10 July at Stormont will now start at 12.30pm on that day. This move will hopefully minimise disruption to patrons who have pre-purchased tickets and provide sides with additional travel and preparation time on the day.
