Clarification over ICC funding support

Back

Cricket Ireland has welcomed the ICC’s restated commitment of funding support to Cricket Ireland, and have also sought to clarify some confusion around the quantum of funding following some recent media reports.
The figure of US$40m represents the entire quantum currently anticipated to be distributed to CI during the period 2016-2023, as opposed to an additional amount quoted in some quarters today.

“The confirmation of this increase is most welcome, and we thank the ICC Board for yesterday’s decision,” said Warren Deutrom, Chief Executive of Cricket Ireland. “However, the funding situation needs some clarification as the maths is slightly complicated.”

“Whereas we used to receive funding from a number of sources, we now receive just one funding stream from ICC. Therefore, while the figure is nominally double what would previously have been received as an Associate member, the actual net increase is less given the cessation of other income supports previously received as an Associate member.”

“We believe that this funding is only the start of our growth, and while the majority of it will be spent on our new obligations as a new Full Member, our ambition is to ensure that we become less reliant on this, and more and more on our own commercial revenue.”

“It is the action on the pitch, rather than in the boardroom, that we believe will underpin our future success. Ticket sales for our First Test against Pakistan in May are going well, and we have recently opened ticket sales for two T20 Internationals against India in June. As you can imagine, interest has been enormous in these games and we hope to have a full house at Malahide.”

“With the support of our main sponsor, Turkish Airlines, we are placing ourselves in a good position to accelerate investment in the grass roots of our game.”

Tickets are now on sale for the international summer fixtures to be played at Malahide:

• Ireland v Pakistan (Test Match, 11-15 May 2018)
• Ireland v India (T20I, 27 June 2018)
• Ireland v India (T20I, 29 June 2018)
