Ireland Women completed a comprehensive 105 run win over Worcester in the ECB County Championship Division Two at Stoubridge Cricket Club yesterday.
Batting first having lost the toss, Ireland posted an imposing total of 256-6 in their 50 overs, with Cecelia Joyce again showing her class with the bat by scoring her second half century in as many matches.

Joyce got Ireland off to a flyer, and along with Una Raymond-Hoey (31) out on 82 for the first wicket before she was caught at backward point after flashing a wide delivery for a run-a-ball 62. There were also runs for Laura Delany (44) and Louise McCarthy (31), as Ireland posted their highest total of this year’s campaign.

Despite a battling 70 not out from Worcester opener Heywood, only Boycott (41) reached double figures and once the latter was run out in the 33rd over it all but ended Worcester’s chances of victory as the run-rate crept away from the home side. Youngsters Lucy O’Reilly and Fiona Gill were in the wickets claiming two apiece, with Elena Tice also picking up a wicket as Worcester finished on 151-6.

Trent Johnston’s charges have now won four of their six matches in the ECB County Championship Division Two – next up for Ireland is a trip to Devon on July 20th where they will be gunning victory to keep their promotion aspirations alive.
