Three convincing victories to the Dragons have them in the box seat on the opening weekend of the 2018 Toyota Super 3’s competition.
The Toyota Super 3’s competition is underway in 2018, with some spectacular play on the field being equally matched with spectacular blue skies above.

The season got underway on Friday night with the Dragons posting a 70-run victory over the Typhoons in the 20-over encounter at Merrion Cricket Club. The star of the Dragons innings was Gaby Lewis, who took 89 runs from just 53 balls – including three sixes. Her side scored at almost 10 runs per over, posting 199-6 from their 20 overs.

In response, the Typhoons managed a creditable 129-8 but were restricted by good bowling and early wickets – with Lewis following up her batting exploits with a spell of 2-14 off four overs.

Near cloudless skies greeted all sides to a triple-header at Pembroke Cricket Club on Sunday. The Typhoons batted first in the early game, making 126-5 from their allotted 20 overs, however a 103-run opening stand between Una Raymond-Hoey (61* off 59 balls) and Rebecca Stokell (32 off 38 balls) set up a comfortable Scorchers win with 2.5 overs to spare.

The middle game of the day saw the Scorchers take on the Dragons – both teams having recorded convincing wins in their first matches. This time Dragons opener Cecelia Joyce led the innings hitting 64* (off 51 balls), supported by Kerry Tomlinson’s late innings 35 off 18 balls. The Dragons total of 166-5 off 20 overs ended up a winning one, with their bowling unit restricting the Scorchers to 125-7, to record a 41-run win.

Late in the day, the Typhoons and Dragons met for the second time in three days, and the result again went the Dragons way. While the Typhoons posted a competitive 143-6 from their 20 overs, in-form Dragons opening pair Gaby Lewis (60* off 60 balls) and Cecelia Joyce (60 off 52 balls) featured in a 126-run opening stand to see the Dragons complete the victory with four balls to spare.
