Ireland U17 Squad Named

Back

Harry Tector will captain Ireland Under 17’s in their series’ against Scotland and Hampshire next month.
The YMCA all-rounder is named in a strong squad of 13, eight of which will be representing Ireland Under 19’s in next week’s Under 19 World Cup Qualifers in Jersey.
Ireland Head Coach Nigel Jones and his selectors were faced with the difficult task of whittling down the squad, which he admitted wasn’t easy, given the depth of talent that exists at this age-group.

“I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the Ireland U17 coaching group to congratulate those players who have been selected for the upcoming series’ against Scotland and Hampshire Academy,” said Jones.

“We believe that we have selected an exciting group of players that can continue to drive standards and raise performance levels over the coming months and seasons as they continue on their player pathways, and perhaps this is no better illustrated than by the naming of eight of the current squad also being selected for the Ireland U19 WCQ squad. Harry Tector will once again captain his country at U17 level and congratulations to him.

“The naming of any squad is never a straightforward or easy process and we appreciate that for those who have missed out this year, that they will be disappointed – at this time we would like to once again thank all our winter squad players and to wish them well for the remainder of their respective seasons.”

First up for the Irish is the Celtic Cup series against traditional foes Scotland, who they will play in a mix of formats. The series starts on Monday August 14 with a two-day game, followed by 20-over and 50-over contests – all at the picturesque Mardyke ground in Cork.

Hampshire then are in the NCU region for a four-match tour, which begins at Woodvale on Monday August 28th. The teams will play four 50-over matches with the series finishing at Belmont (CIYMS) on Thursday August 31.
