The Ireland Under 17 girls team won the second of four Celtic Cup matches against Scotland at Oak Hill today thanks to a brilliant individual performance.
The Ireland under 17s Girls team defeated their Scottish counterparts by 156 runs in the second Celtic Cup match at Oak Hill today.

That’s the team story, however the day belonged to Orla Prendergast who produced an incredible individual performance to dominate proceedings.
Prendergast scored exactly 100 off 85 balls, after Ireland had been asked to bat by Scotland, before taking 5-17 off 6 overs, to bowl Ireland to victory.

Scotland won the toss and after being bowled out cheaply yesterday they elected to field. When Lucy O’Reilly fell for 0 this seemed a good plan.

This merely brought Pembroke’s Prendergast to the middle and supported by Leah Paul (28) and Ellen Ridgeway (27), Prendergast pushed her own score to one hundred and the Ireland score to 179 for five.

Some late hitting from Cliona Tucker (27) and Alana Dalzell (17) brought the Ireland score to 248/8 from their 40 overs.

The star of the show with the ball was also Orla Prendergast as she took 5-17 off her six overs. Her first wicket removing Scottish captain Grant who top-scored with 22 and was beginning to gain some momentum going for her team.

Instead, Prendergast was able to attack the new batters and continue taking wickets. She was well supported by Lucy O’Reilly (2-20), Cara Murray (1-17) and a particularly stingy four overs from Alana Dalzell (1-3).

When Frazer was the last Scotland wicket to fall, run out by O’Reilly, they had been dismissed for 92 and Ireland had a victory by 156 runs.

That’s two wins from two for Clare Shillington’s charges in this week’s Celtic Cup. The side have fronted up both when bowling first and batting first.

They meet Scotland again on Thursday at 10am in another 40-over match before a T20 between the sides on Friday, both taking place at Oak Hill.
