Ireland Women Announce County Championship Squad

Strong performances in last week’s Super 3’s fixture from Anna Kerrison and Kate McKenna earned the pair a call up to the senior squad for games against Essex and Staffordshire on May 24th and 25th.
The game against Essex on Sunday 24th will be held at Felsted School, with the second game against Staffordshire to be held at Meakins CC on Monday 25th, with both games starting at 11am.

McKenna had missed out on the squad last time, but an outstanding batting performance for the Typhoons last week, where she scored an unbeaten 69, earned her a recall to the squad.

Kerrison, who spent the winter in Australia in the Darren Lehman Cricket Academy has impressed since her return, and a solid performance opening the batting for the Scorchers ensured she forced her way into the squad.

Clare Shillington is one of a few players not available for the matches due to work or school commitments, although the return of Kim Garth and Jennifer Gray after completing University exams compensates for their loss.

The first round of County Championship matches saw Ireland take a convincing win in the opening game, but then lose the second in equally convincing fashion. This time out focus will be on getting two wins to keep plans of promotion to Division 1 on track.

Many of the squad will be in action this weekend as part of the new Super 3’s competition, with the Typhoons taking on the Dragons at Merrion on Sunday. The game will start at 1pm and entry is free for all spectators.
