Ireland Women beat Bangladesh

Back
Back

Ireland Women scored a great win over Bangladesh as Isobel Joyce and Louise McCarthy put in superb performances to help Ireland win convincingly by 61 runs on Duckworth Lewis method.
Ireland women begin their Tri-Series with Pakistan and Bangladesh today on a high after beating Bangladesh in a stand-alone ODI in Phoenix CC yesterday.

In a rain affected match, Ireland won by 61 runs, rolling Bangladesh for 93. Earlier, Ireland posted 148 for six from 45 overs, captain Isobel Joyce top-scoring with 43 and Eimear Richardson close behind on 31. Then the rain came down in sheets and it looked like that could be the end of cricket for the day but, by half-past-three, Ireland took the field and the visitors were given the total of 156 to reach from 38 overs by the Duckworth-Lewis Method.

Ireland began well and Bangladesh were never given a chance to get going. The day’s top performers with the ball were Louise McCarthy who took four scalps and Isobel Joyce who took three. Laura Delany and Kim Garth took one each and a run out by McCarthy and Elena Tice finished the match with Bangladesh 93 all-out.

Pakistan could prove an even stiffer test today in the first match of the Tri-Series; they are currently sixth in the world while Ireland are 10th. Ireland versus Pakistan begins at 10.45 in YMCA today, Pakistan play Bangladesh at the same time in Railway tomorrow and Ireland play Bangladesh in YMCA at the same time on Friday.
