The Ireland Women’s team step up their preparations for their T20 World Cup Qualifiers in the new year with a Celtic Cup series against Scotland
The Ireland Women’s team have travelled to Scotland for a four match Celtic Cup series in Forfarshire.

The two sides will meet in one 50-over match before switching formats and playing three T20 matches.

The Irish side is led by Leinster all-rounder Laura Delany who is looking forward to “placing a lot of emphasis on the T20 format with the World Cup qualifiers taking place in early 2018.”

“The Scotland series will be an excellent opportunity for the side to start gearing up for what lies ahead next year,” Delany continued.

The squad is made up of players who have been involved in the Toyota Super 3s league and this competition has benefitted from the international experience players gained in the spring.

“The standard of the Super Three’s has definitely improved this season and no doubt the tours to the UAE and South Africa has played a part in that, said Delany.

Ireland Head Coach Aaron Hamilton knows the series is very important as the players “look to transfer focus into T20 cricket leading into the World Cup qualifiers early next year.

“For me this series is about starting to identify the right combinations that will give us the best chance to qualify for the Women’s World T20 finals in the West Indies in 2018,” he added.

As well as experienced internationals, the squad also includes new talents who were involved in the recent Under 17 Celtic Cup success against Scotland at Oak Hill in County Wicklow.
