Leinster Make History at Taunton

Back
Back

The Leinster Under 13 side made history by winning the Taunton Cricket Festival in Somerset today. They performed exceptionally all week and topped the tables with wins over Cheshire, Yorkshire, Gloucestershire & Cornwall
Ironically given how well the squad performed all week, the tournament victory was sealed without a ball being bowled as heavy rain affected Taunton and with no play being possible the match was abandoned and Leinster’s place at the top of the table was confirmed.

Cricket Ireland Development Manager BrĂan O’Rourke commented on the victory, “This a real stand-out victory for the development of Irish Cricket. There have been some fantastic performances over the week individually but what really stands out is the way the team played together and how every member of the squad made vital contributions throughout the week.”

He continued by saying how it was a remarkable turn-around in fortune for the side at the Taunton festival “The first few years we struggled at Taunton against the English counties, only winning our first matches there last season. However, in the past two years we have made a serious impact and claimed notable scalps along the way, impressing many observers with the style and quality of our play. This all bodes well for the future of Irish Cricket and let’s hope some of the young cricketers here can continue through the development system and go on to represent Leinster and Ireland at higher levels. The management team of Sean McAuley, Tim Ackland and Michael O’Gorman have all done a fantastic job this week and played an integral part in the success.”
