Munster Cricket appoint new Cricket Manager

CORK – Munster Cricket is delighted to announce the appointment of Joe Moynihan as Cricket Manager for the Union.
The significant new role within Munster Cricket will see Joe lead the Union in to the next phase of its development and support its transition to a new governance structure.

In his role as Cricket Manager, Joe will be tasked with leading the strategic and business planning process for the Union, ensuring areas of strategic focus. This focus will include but not be limited to boys, girls, men’s, women’s cricket, culture & diversity, etc. and ultimately grow the game of cricket within the Munster region.

Joe will work closely with Munster Cricket Chairperson, David Griffin, as well as key stakeholders in Cricket Ireland as Munster Cricket seeks to enhance its cricket development, commercial and operational structures while also helping to create a strong club development system.

Joe Moynihan is no stranger to the Munster region and Cork, in particular, having attended Presentation Brothers College on the Mardyke and later moving onto Cork Institute of Technology (CIT). He is also a keen rugby player and has represented PBC and also his club side Sunday’s Well.

Having completed a BA Degree in Business Studies at CIT, Joe then completed a Master’s Degree in Business Sports Management from University of Ulster.

Since 2012, he has been based in Australia and worked in a number of sports management roles in a variety sports such as the Australian Football League (AFL), Boxing and Ten Pin Bowling. He has just completed a four year period as the Sport Development Co-ordinator for the Disabled Sport and Recreation Association of Queensland.

Munster Cricket Chairperson David Griffin welcomed the appointment and said:

“I am really looking forward to Joe taking up the reins as Munster Cricket Manager at the start of June. This will give all involved in Munster a huge boost as they work to grow the game across the Province. Joe’s extensive experience in sports management across a number of sports will be a huge benefit to all the clubs and to the members of the Munster Executive and committees. Munster Cricket has ambitious plans to grow the game and Joe will have a major part in realising those objectives in the coming years.“

Looking forward to commencing his new position with Munster Cricket, Joe Moynihan stated:

“I am delighted to accept the new Cricket Manager position within Munster Cricket. This is an exciting opportunity to develop cricket at local and inter-provincial level. I am looking forward to working closely with the staff and volunteers within Munster Cricket.”
