The Northern Cricket Union in association with Cricket Ireland has formed a new Groundsman Association as part of the ongoing development of cricket within the Union.

The Groundsman Association, which is free to join, will allow men and women the opportunity to meet and share knowledge, skills and expertise. The NCU has been in touch with all cricket clubs asking for possible nominees or names of those with an interest in grounds keeping to join the Groundsman Association. There is already a healthy interest from clubs in the initiative.

For those who wish to participate in the Groundsman Association there will be a variety of courses which will be held in the Spring and Autumn of 2013 and will be organised by The Institute of Groundsmanship (IOG). These courses will be held at different levels to suit the skills needs of those participating.

Speaking about the Groundsman Association, Brian Walsh, NCU Chairman said: “This is another initiative from the NCU to help clubs improve the standards of pitches and grounds”.

Brian congratulated Andy Clement and the Cricket Development Directorate, especially Stephen Dyer who has led this particular initiative.
