DUBLIN – With the undefeated Dragons – the reigning champions from 2018 – setting the pace in the early stages of the 2019 Toyota Super 3s, the Scorchers and Typhoons will be seeking to claim much-needed points in the upcoming 50-over fixtures this weekend.
Scorchers Head Coach, Andrew Poynter, is keen to see his side react positively after the first two matches of the season:

“After losing our first two T20s, this is a great opportunity for the Scorchers to get back to winning ways and carry some confidence and momentum into the next T20s towards the end of the month.”

The Scorchers, who will be missing the experienced Isobel Joyce and Cecelia Joyce this weekend, will be looking to captain Shauna Kavanagh to steer a more youthful looking side through two challenging encounters. The Scorchers will also be hoping that Sophie MacMahon will continue the great form she displayed in the recent internationals against West Indies, in which she claimed three wickets and shared in at 26 runs apiece.

The Typhoons will be looking to continue their dominance over the Scorchers in this year’s competition, after clinching the first match-up between the sides in May by 21 runs. Head Coach Tim Simmonite named his squad which will be led by Irish international Una Raymond-Hoey, in the absence of the injured Laura Delany. The side in blue will also be looking to leg-spinner Celeste Raack, who since her move from Australia, has quickly become an important of both the Typhoons and Irish international sides.

The Dragons have started their title defence with gusto, claiming two early wins in convincing fashion. The side, however, will be without captain Kim Garth for the next match due to a niggle, and Mary Waldron who is on an umpiring assignment.
