Last week it was announced that O’Neills have come on board as the tournament sponsor.

The week was divided into two competitions:

• O’Neills Under-15s Youth Inter-Provincial T20 Series
• O’Neills Under-15s Youth Inter-Provincial 50-over Series

O’Neills Under-15s Youth Inter-Provincial 50-over Series

NCU U15 vs Munster U15 (50 Overs) – 1 July 2019 (see scorecard)

Munster won the toss and elected to bat, and after shorts rain delay they got away to a steady start thanks to their top order, reaching a promising position of 110 for 4 on a tricky wicket. However a good second spell from Rory Ellerby saw him take 3 wickets for 14 runs, and with support from the other bowlers they managed to keep the total down to 137 all out. In the second innings Munster got off to a good start with an early wicket, but a 115 partnership between between Matthew Halliday and Ashton Clarke saw NCU to victory.

NWCU U15 vs Leinster U15 (50 Overs) – 1 July 2019 (see scorecard)

After the reluctant rain cleared Leinster put themselves into bat, however they found runs hard to come by thanks to a tight bowling attack from NWCU – especially from Khyat Bhavsar who bowled 10 overs conceding only 11 runs and taking 3 wickets in the process. This meant that NWCU went into bat needing 127 off 50 overs, with a steady start NWCU were 49 for 1 when Andrew Tonge came into the attack who bowled a match winning spell taking 6 wickets for 20 runs helping Leinster win after bowling NWCU out for 83.

NCU U15 vs Leinster U15 (50 Overs) – 2 July 2019 (see scorecard)

After the toss was won by Leinster they chose to bat, but they faced a strong bowling attack from NCU and struggled to gain any long partnerships. However batsmen all the way down the order got what runs they could resulting in the total set being 160 all out. None of the top order could manage to get in as the Leinster field stayed tight and bowlers took wickets, despite an exciting innings from Michael Waite coming in at number 10 NCU fell short and were bowled out for 116 in the 40th over.

NWCU U15 vs Munster U15 (50 Overs) – 2 July 2019 (see scorecard)

Another toss won by Munster saw NWCU batting first on another damp day. After a slow start, the first wicket fell in the 13th over with NWCU at 40 for 1 and needing to increase their run rate, which was aptly done by Raymond Curry who scored a brilliant 105 of just 79 balls causing a strong total to be set of 277 for 6. During the second innings Munster struggled to get any major partnerships due to a good team bowling performance by NWCU which left Munster all out for 102.

NB: A number of fixtures have been played pre-Tournament week – NCU U15 v NWCU U15 and Munster U15 v Leinster U15.

O’Neills Under-15s Youth Inter-Provincial T20 Series

NCU U15 vs NWCU U15 (20 overs) – 3 July 2019 (see scorecard)

On a sunny morning, NWCU won the toss and they chose to bat first. However a great opening spell from Carson McCullough in which he took the wicket of both opening batsmen left them at 11 for 2, but Raymond Curry played another vital innings of 66 from just 45, well supported by other batsmen resulted in the final score reading 136 for 4. The second innings started promising for NWCU due to a fine opening spell from Josh Wilson meant that NCU were 51 for 6 in the eleventh over, but Michael Waite’s innings of 59 from 42 gave NCU a good chance, needing 7 off the last over, but tight bowling and fielding meant that only 5 came off the over and NWCU won by 1 run.

Munster U15 vs Leinster U15 (20 Overs) – 3 July 2019 (see scorecard)

Munster were first to bat and saw out the 20 over however Leinster were excellent in the field and with a few good catches and kept Munster down to 98 with 7 wickets shared between the bowlers. Leinster then went into bat, but despite a couple of good early catches, Wilhelm De Klerk’s 56 allowed the Leinster batsmen to reach the total set by Munster with a couple of overs to spare losing only 3 wickets in the chase.

NCU U15 vs Munster U15 (20 overs) – 3 July 2019 (see scorecard)

Munster won the toss and chose to bat first. Another good team bowling performance by NCU meant that runs were hard to come by for Munster. However all the batsmen chipped in to a total of 103 from the 20 overs with a late flurry of runs by Andrew Doheny. NCU started their batting innings with care at a steady run rate, however once Matthew Daly had been in long enough, we saw an impressive batting display including four sixes which meant that NCU chased down the total with 7 overs to spare.

NWCU U15 vs Leinster U15 (20 Overs) – 3 July 2019 (see scorecard)

NWCU won the toss and put themselves into bat first, however they found it difficult to score and only two boundaries came in the innings, through good running they managed to reach 63 with the 10th wicket off the last ball. A low total for Leinster to chase looked simple but Khyat Bhavsar bowled well again taking 4 wickets in 4 overs, leaving Leinster 25 for 5. But Phillipe Le Roux played a useful innings allowing Leinster to clinch victory with just 1 ball and 1 wicket to spare.
