Under-17s Youth Inter-Pro Match Reports

The O’Neills Under-17s Youth Inter-Provincial Series was played from 7 – 11 July 2019 at Holywood Cricket Club, Bangor Cricket Club and Campbell College.
Last week it was announced that O’Neills have come on board as the tournament sponsor.

The week was divided into two competitions:

• O’Neills Under-17s Youth Inter-Provincial T20 Series
• O’Neills Under-17s Youth Inter-Provincial 50-over Series

O’Neills Under-15s Youth Inter-Provincial 50-over Series

NWCU U15 vs Munster U17 (50 Overs) – 7 July 2019 (see scorecard)

After winning the toss NWCU decided to bat first. Whilst wickets frequently fell around him Tommy Orr was the player to stay in at the top of the order, reaching a pleasing 95 before being caught behind agonisingly short of a century. After this and a late 44 from Stuart Kennedy NWCU posted a total of 256 all out. Munster batsmen struggled to stay in due to a good all-round bowling performance from NWCU and Munster were bowled out for 95.

NCU U15 vs Leinster U17 (50 Overs) – 7 July 2019 (see scorecard)

Leinster won the toss and went into bat. After loosing an early wicket they managed to stabilise well with many from the top and middle order contributing to a final total of 149 all out. A strong start from both the Leinster opening bowlers left NCU 36 for for 3 in nine overs, but a 90 run stand between Reece Malone (43) and Matthew Humphreys (50) meant that NCU were in the promising position of 126 for 3 but Theo Dempsey (5-29)came back into the attack helped shift the momentum back in Leinster’s favour. Though NCU just managed to get across the line winning by 1 wicket.

After a start delayed by rain NWCU sent themselves out to bat and got off to a slow start, but after a few quick wickets they found themselves at 95 for 6 however a late 50 from Ben Mills meant that the final score read 177 all out. In the second innings only one wicket fell with a partnership of 144 between Seamus Lynch (53*) and Louis McDonough (97*) sealed the victory for Leinster meaning that they finished runners up in the 50 over competition.

The toss went NCU’s way and the decided to bat first and a fantastic innings to 140 by Archie Johnston set the tone for the innings, with other batsmen chipping in, including a 64 from Ewan Wilson meant that NCU’s final score was an impressive 342 all out. It proved to be too much for Munster who managed 183 all out including an stylish 53 from Cian Egerton. This victory crowned NCU the winners of the 50 over competition

NB: A number of fixtures have been played pre-Tournament week – NCU U17 v NWCU U17 and Munster U17 v Leinster U17.

O’Neills Under-17s Youth Inter-Provincial T20 Series

Leinster U17 vs Munster U17 (20 overs) – 9 July 2019 (see scorecard)

Munster won the toss and decided to put Leinster in to bat. Due to good bowling early on in the innings Leinster found themselves at 53 for 3 off 8 overs however a 100 partnership between Michael O’Reilly (66) and Jack McGee (34) meant that Leinster posted a total of 153 for 3. Sadly the Munster batsmen struggled with Owen Graham and Cillian McDonnell taking 7 wickets between them meant that Munster were bowled out for 38.

NCU U17 vs NWCU U17 (20 overs) – 9 July 2019 (see scorecard)

With the game being moved to an evening match due to rain NCU won the toss and went in to bat. However their innings never really got going due to a good bowling performance by NWCU including Ben Mills who took 4 wickets for just 17 runs, resulted in NCU posting 72 all out. In difficult batting conditions NWCU struggled to form any partnerships, however they did chase down the total in the 18th over losing 6 wickets.

NB: A number of fixtures were abandoned due to rain, including NCU U17 vs Leinster U17, NWCU U17 vs Munster U17 and NCU U17 vs Munster U17.
